Thus, is CCleaner safe to use? Is CCleaner worth it in 2022? This piece will try to solve those questions as objectively as possible. That happened in 2017, and they’ve tried to resolve that crisis so that users won’t be affected anymore. The experts from the Avast Threat Labs have discovered an ATP security incident with CCleaner that raised some questions regarding users’ security. Yet, even if it happened right after the acquisition, we have to mention the difficult situation Avast has been through with CCleaner. But first, it became a watershed for 12 months for poor reasons. Then, in 2017, international cybersecurity chief Avast acquired Piriform. As a result, CCleaner has been downloaded more than 2 billion times and is installed on more than five million devices weekly. However, developers rolled out iterations for macOS and Android in 20, respectively. Originally, it was designed to optimize PC performance. How to get started with a new CCleaner?.It’s easy to analyze a hard drive to see how much space-specific files are taking up and view and organize a full list based on filenames and size to see what’s been eating up your hard drive. Several handy modules (Mac OS X and Applications on the Cleaner tab, and Uninstall, Free up disk space, search for large files and find duplicate files on the Options tab) provide easy access to specific tools. One gives CCleaner full disk access in the macOS security and privacy settings, and the software will start working. CCleaner might not be as flashy as its competitors, but it does the job. As a result, it’s been a staple of techies on Macs, Windows PCs, and Android-based computers for years, and with good reason.ĭesigned as free software with the option to pay for a professional version and corresponding annual license, CCleaner does what it’s supposed to do: help clean gigabytes of cache files and internet history files, locate large files on your Mac, and Clear. This is despicable behavior from a supposed security company who is supposed to be trustworthy.Originally designed to clean up registry files on Windows-based computers, Piriform’s CCleaner came to Mac in the Mac OS X 10.7 Lion days and hasn’t looked back. When I said no, I don't want to agree to it in the first place, THEY HUNG UP! I called back, got the exact same response from a different agent, they also hung up instead of explaining! So, I called their customer service, which is not an easy phone number to find, and their answer was that I could simply cancel before the year was up. BUT, when the page sent me to PayPal I was told in the fine print that I was allowing them to deduct a yearly charge, with no way of opting out! Thank goodness I re-read the terms on the PayPal page, I wonder how many people don't? So I un-clicked the box, and the agreement under the Submit button switched to where I was no longer agreeing to the yearly charge. The page automatically selects the yearly renewal, where you must physically cancel to stop them from a yearly re-charge of the full $24.99. I went in to purchase the 30% off, 1-year subscription. Either way, you will be cleaning the junk out of your PC and cellphone with no effort at all. The free version works just fine, if you don't care about or aren't interested in the little bonus perks of the paid version. I have been using the paid version for both my PC and cellphone, so I can honestly say it is great and worth the small licensing fee you pay for them. You can choose to use either the free version or upgrade to the premium paid version for both your PC and cellphone. I have also been using the cellphone app version for a while and it is great, just like the PC one. There is also a cellphone app version that will do the same thing for your phone. With a few simple clicks, all of your junk files will be wiped away. You can quickly and easily get rid of unnecessary junk that may be slowing down your computer, like temporary files, cookies, old registry files and so on. It does what it is supposed to do flawlessly. I have been using this handy clean up utility software on my PC for years now.
